2015 Roots Picnic

Roots, Rap, and Reggae in Philly.

The 8th annual Roots Picnic music festival went down in Philly this past weekend and it was incredible! So glad I had the opportunity to be there and see musical legends like The Roots and Erykah Badu for the first time.

Here is a list of some of the performers: DJ Mustard, Rae Sremmurd, Chronixx, Phantogram, A$AP Rocky, and The Weeknd. Lets not forget about the surprise guests The Roots brought on stage with them: YG, Freeway, and The LOX!

Northern Uprising

Here Comes The North

Today I came across a great article from Toronto Star writer, Dave Feschuk on a shift taking place in the world of basketball talent. It’s fitting that after this past NBA All Star weekend in New York City  (the place many call the Mecca of basketball, which I don’t understand) that the game and all it’s festivities will travel North to Toronto next year.

For those of my generation and younger the New York basketball scene has been a joke for most, if not all of our lives. As Feschuk puts it in his article- which you can read after the jump-

Emerge 2013 awarded 14 awards for the Digital Media Gold Circle by the CSPA

Congratulations to the 2013 Media Studies students of Guelph Humber on the recent accomplishment.

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association announced its digital journalism awards today. Emerge 2013 has won 15–more than doubling the number of awards garnered by the 2012 class.
Here is the link to the CSPA website, http://cspa.columbia.edu/recepient-lists/2014-awards-student-work-gold-circle-awards-collegiate-recipients

It it is a tremendous honour to be awarded with this great prize. During our final year at Guelph-Humber several of us worked very hard on what at the time seemed like a daunting task, the hard work paid off and we put together something to be proud of.  Cheers to my classmates and all those involved with the 2013 edition of Emerge Magazine.

Toronto Finally Has A Winner

Toronto Argonauts Capture the 100th Grey Cup

Tuesday November 27th will forever be known as Toronto Argonauts Day thanks to the impressive 35-22 win by the Argos on Sunday.

The victory over the Calgary Stampeders put the often forgotten team into the Toronto spotlight- at least for this week- as the city was full of energy that hadn’t been felt since the early ’90s.  Many will argue that the 2012 Argos were destined to win 100th Grey Cup. From their practice facility going up in flames to the one sided-trade that landed Ricky Ray, the Argos battled and overcame the odds With the Maple Leafs in the middle of a lockout and the Raptors fighting to stay out of the NBA’s basement this was the perfect time for the Argos to seize the attention.

It’s the “King’s” league now.

Love him or hate him,  but the NBA is now Lebron’s league. Fresh off the NBA title and an Olympic Gold Medal, Lebron James and his Miami Heat  teammates are ready to defend their championship.

With few teams standing in their way in the Eastern Conference look for the Heat to fly into the NBA Finals (barring a significant injury), where things could get interesting when they finally battle a worthy opponent from the West.
