In The Paint: No Love for the “King”

Lebron celebrates his team’s NBA championship.

Every sport needs its villain and until Thursday night Lebron James was that villain for many NBA fans. The controversy surrounding his departure from Cleveland (highlighted by his infamous ‘decision ’) created a gap between fans.

Since he first entered the association in 2003 James has had his share of haters and doubters ( I’ve been one of them), he’s gone through so much turmoil in the years leading up to this title. There was never a doubt on his skill level- at least not on this end- but the problem many had with the so called “King” was that he was given so much so soon.

In The Paint: Midseason review of the Toronto Raptors

It’s been a race to the Draft instead of a race to the playoffs.

Toronto Raptors

Coming into the 2011- 2012 season not much was expected of the Toronto Raptors and for better or for worse the team has met those very low expectations so far this season.

With a new coach, in Dwane Casey, the team has switched from its shoot first mentality to more of a defensive minded approach. The Raptors went from giving up roughly 104 points per game last year to just under 95 points per game so far this season.

In The Paint

While the NBA is still in the middle of what appears to be a long lockout, fans hungry for basketball have been debating on everything  NBA all summer long.

ESPN recently compiled a list of 500 players in the NBA and ranked them from 500 all the way to number 1.  The list which was made by averaging out the ratings used by over 90 experts, and is based on 2010 stats.  To see the list done by ESPN, follow the link.

Many people bashed the list and said it was out of order. You can’t please everyone, but with that said here are lists done by me and fellow basketball enthusiast, Matthew Findlayter.

In The Paint: New Era in the NBA?

A New Era

The 2011 NBA season has seen the rise of young talents, small markets and Cinderella teams. With the familiar faces of the Lakers, Spurs,  and Celtics all out of the playoffs, it would appear to be a changing of the guards in the NBA.

For a few years now, fans and basketball enthusiasts have claimed that those powerhouse teams in the NBA were getting old and losing their luster. It would appear that 2011 may have been the year that all of these teams came crashing down.

NBA Playoff Preview

With the regular season out of the way it is time to get down to business. The real Season starts Saturday. With a few exceptions most of my picks to make the playoffs have gotten in, so I bring you my 2011 NBA Playoff Preview (first round).

Eastern Conference

Indiana Pacers vs. Chicago Bulls

Coming into the playoffs as the NO.1 seed there is a reason why the Bulls are favoured to get to the finals. The Pacers rely heavily on Danny Granger and the Bulls rely on Derrick Rose (who will be the MVP), this series will come down to a few things. Simply put the team with dominant superstar (Chicago), the team with the better defense (Chicago) and the team with the better offense (Chicago) will win this series. Edge- Chicago in 4.

Above The Rim:The 2010-2011 NBA PREVIEW

With the NBA Season ready to tip off on Tuesday Night I give you my predictions for the 2010-2011 season. Look for this season to be the year of the youngins’ , teams like the Thunder, Bucks and Clippers should have a solid year.

Let’s begin in the eastern conference:

We all know about the changes that took place in the off season and the infamous “decision” of one Lebron “King” James, but NBA is bigger than LBJ (sorry Lebron fans but it’s the truth). An Unbalanced NBA

East Looks to Dominate

With all of the player movement that has occurred from a busy NBA off season, the 2010-2011 campaign appears to be one of the most interesting seasons in recent memory. There has been much talk around one team in particular, the Miami Heat (for very good reason). The Heat were one of many teams that went after the BIG stars and actually landed them.

Miami Heat players Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh

- Miami is only one of the teams in the NBA east that landed big stars, teams like Boston and New York are trying to make a push towards that NBA championship-as they should; but at what cost?
