New Music: Common Disses Drake (again)

2012 has kicked off with a bang, at least in the hip hop world. On Jan.7th Rick Ross released his highly anticipated ‘RichForever’ mixtape. The mixtape features the song entitled, ‘Stay Schemin’ in which Drake took the time to reply to fellow rapper, Common.

“Don’t be ducking like you never wanted nothin’/It’s feeling like rap changed, it was a time it was rugged/Back when if a n—a reached, it was for the weapon/Nowadays n—as reach just to sell their record.”

O.V.O. Festival 2011

Caribana wasn’t the only event happening in Toronto this past weekend, Drake pulled out all the stops this year for his 2nd annual O.V.O. Festival.

The event which featured fellow Toronto artist, The Weeknd and also the biggest rapper (literally) in the game right now, Rick Ross will go down as one of the hottest concerts of the year.  Performing in front of a packed crowd inside The Molson Amphitheatre, Drake delivered the goods. With artist such as J.Cole, Nas, Lil Wayne and the legendary Stevie Wonder surprising audience members with a show they won’t soon forget. Check out the footage below.

Fresh Music: Drake- Marvin’s Room + more

Drake once again had the internet buzzing with the leak of his new track, “Marvin’s Room” (Prod. by 40). After seeing Drake perform on Rihanna’s LOUD Tour here in Toronto I’m excited again to see Toronto’s own take over the music scene again.  The song gets back to Drakes signature style of R&B similar to “Dreams Money Can Buy” which was released early May.

Sources say that we can expect an official single release in early July with the album, “Take Care” to be on store shelves/itunes October 24th.

The torch hasn’t been passed from the old skool of hip hop to the new; but it’s safe to say, there is a fresh new sound being embraced by the game’s upper echelons.

Jay-z’s God Father-esque blessing on Drake’s career and Lil Wayne’s unwavering support of the T Dot Actor turned rapper, sets him on an unstoppable path.

To the haters Drake says, “they must be talking to themselves on hands free”.
