In The Paint: Midseason review of the Toronto Raptors

It’s been a race to the Draft instead of a race to the playoffs.

Toronto Raptors

Coming into the 2011- 2012 season not much was expected of the Toronto Raptors and for better or for worse the team has met those very low expectations so far this season.

With a new coach, in Dwane Casey, the team has switched from its shoot first mentality to more of a defensive minded approach. The Raptors went from giving up roughly 104 points per game last year to just under 95 points per game so far this season.

New Music: Common Disses Drake (again)

2012 has kicked off with a bang, at least in the hip hop world. On Jan.7th Rick Ross released his highly anticipated ‘RichForever’ mixtape. The mixtape features the song entitled, ‘Stay Schemin’ in which Drake took the time to reply to fellow rapper, Common.

“Don’t be ducking like you never wanted nothin’/It’s feeling like rap changed, it was a time it was rugged/Back when if a n—a reached, it was for the weapon/Nowadays n—as reach just to sell their record.”

Mac Marauds their way to the Vanier Cup

By: Brandon Graham

Vanier Cup Champions

It was almost a dreamlike scene Friday night. The Laval Rouge et Or, the No.1 ranked university football team and perhaps the finest football program that Canadian football has ever seen, were dominated by a team in its first-ever Vanier Cup appearance, the McMaster Marauders.

The Marauders, coming out of Hamilton, Ontario were ranked as the No.4 team in the nation coming into the playoffs to end up beating the Laval Rouge et Or 41-38 in a double overtime thriller at B.C Place. McMaster held a 23-point halftime lead, thanks to their stingy defense and a brilliant display of composed quarterbacking from their star Kyle Quinlan.

In The Paint

While the NBA is still in the middle of what appears to be a long lockout, fans hungry for basketball have been debating on everything  NBA all summer long.

ESPN recently compiled a list of 500 players in the NBA and ranked them from 500 all the way to number 1.  The list which was made by averaging out the ratings used by over 90 experts, and is based on 2010 stats.  To see the list done by ESPN, follow the link.

Many people bashed the list and said it was out of order. You can’t please everyone, but with that said here are lists done by me and fellow basketball enthusiast, Matthew Findlayter.

Concert Review: J.Cole at Sound Academy

Cole World

Cole World

Saturday September 3rd J.Cole brought his storytelling flow and incredible stage presence to Toronto once again. Joined by the Airplane Boys and D-Pryde the trio shut down the Sound Academy.

The opening acts did not disappoint the sold out and packed venue. The Airplane Boys got the crowd on their feet and had everyone hyped for the rest of the show. The crew that hails form Toronto put on a great show with their mix of rock, rap, and dance.  Next up on the bill was another Toronto artist doing his thing, D-Pryde.
